5 Tips on Writing: With Kc MCclary
My name is Kc McClary aka Moon Pie on Medium & X , oh I’ve been a writer for about 11+ years. My background is versatile with specialties in Fiction, Editing, Medicine, Ghostwriting, Blogging, Journalism, Proofreading, Proposal Writing for the likes of Space X / NASA, and most recently Narrative Design.
Hooking Your Audience
Make All locations & Characters within your story pop , your audience is reading your work to be entertained , escape the hum-drum of their day to day , & to be enchanted by the yarn your spinning.
Mastering Plot Development
Invest time & Energy into being a Media sponge, and take inspiration from various sources and plots with many different twists and turns. Your story should be a well-balanced breakfast when it comes to drama, suspense, adventure, action, thrill, & horror.
Effective World-Building Strategies
Build your world as if you’re an explorer and you’re taking your audience along with you on a grand expedition to explore and conquer uncharted lands. Your World should be so Fascinating and addicting that the audience wants to know everything there is to know about it down to the most basic lore.
Techniques for Character Development
Characters should always be complex and have their own respective goals and dreams. Moreover, the lives of side characters and NPCs within your world should never Revolve around your primary characters.
Crafting Meaningful Decisions
The choices should always breed change within the characters or the world. If a character choice has no impact at all then it’s unnecessary to your story as a whole. However, if you’re going for anti-impact then I recommend that your character not change at all but instead, the world around them change immensely.
In actual life, we’ve all encountered people who are simply incapable of change & personal growth and I believe the potential for incredibly rich and deep narratives can come from taking this route over the traditional one.
What are your strengths in writing and narrative design?
Definitely Character development , World Building , & Lore development.
Which games or stories have you worked on?
I’ve worked on and published several fiction series over the years and as of late, I’ve been hard at work finishing/ polishing up my two twist Tales Audiogames Twisted Knight 1 & 2.
Exploring Favorites
Fuck, that’s a hard question to answer because there are so many superb stories out there but above all my favorite story of all time would have to be 1999’s Summer of Sam. This movie is in a nutshell a true crime flick but every character is interesting, the setting is colorful/captivating, the characters are extremely well developed, the themes are deep, & the twists and turns in the story are simple yet exquisite.
A Wish for Interactive Audio Stories
I’d wish for a dark fantasy apocalypse interactive audio story that’s inspired by Hell Boy, Resident Evil, The Witcher, Fallout, & Clive Barker Hellraiser. I imagine that a story like this would be wildly popular and would amass a large fan base if properly written.
