One Last Job

Introduction

What would you do if you were part of a team on the brink of a life-changing discovery—one that could secure your future but threatens to tear everything apart? One Last Job places you in the heart of this gripping sci-fi story game, where your choices influence not only the mission’s outcome but the very relationships that hold your crew together.

This interactive audiobook immerses players in a cinematic experience like no other. It’s not just a story—it’s your story.

The Plot: A Treasure Hunt Like No Other

Set aboard The Eagle, a spaceship piloted by a team of treasure hunters, One Last Job begins with the discovery of a legendary treasure on a distant planet. It’s the crew’s last shot at unimaginable riches, but the journey is fraught with peril. The asteroid fields, malfunctioning equipment, and fractured trust among the team add layers of tension.

Adding to the complexity, Will, the protagonist, owes a dangerous debt to a shadowy group called the Roamers. As you navigate this choice-driven adventure, the stakes rise with every decision, testing your loyalty and cunning at every turn.

Meet the Characters: Allies or Rivals?

Will – The Protagonist
Will, the protagonist, is a rugged and scarred survivor shaped by hardship. Resourceful and a skilled pilot, he is cynical yet loyal, driven by guilt and the hope of redemption. His complex motivations make him a compelling anchor for the story.

Amy – The Mechanic
Amy, the team’s mechanic, brings warmth and resilience to the group. With her quick thinking and adeptness at repairs under pressure, she serves as a steadying force amid chaos. However, Amy is torn between her loyalties to Will and the rest of the crew, adding emotional depth to her character.

Max – The Sharpshooter
Max, the sharpshooter, exudes confidence and brashness with his cocky demeanor. His exceptional aim and quick reflexes make him an invaluable ally in combat, though his competitive and sarcastic nature often fuels tension within the team.

Liam – The Leader
Liam, the leader of the group, is calm and collected, embodying the traits of a natural strategist. Focused on mission success, Liam’s tactical decision-making often comes at the cost of emotional connections, making him a stoic but effective leader.

Dynamic Choices That Define the Story

One Last Job thrives on meaningful choices, where every decision alters the trajectory of the plot.

  • Acknowledge Risks or Embrace Thrill: Set the tone early—will you remind your crew of the dangers ahead or celebrate their enthusiasm?
  • Action in Crisis: Will you help Amy in the engine room or compete with Max in a tense shootout?
  • Romantic Tension: Deepen your relationship with Amy or distance yourself—your choice influences trust and future interactions.
  • Handle Will’s Debt: Navigate encounters with the Roamers delicately or take a confrontational stance, shaping their role in the story.

Each decision ripples through the narrative, altering character relationships, resource availability, and even the mission’s ultimate outcome. The result is an interactive storytelling experience that keeps players on edge and coming back for more.

Why Interactive Storytelling Brings the Story to Life

Unlike static text-based stories, One Last Job transforms storytelling into an active experience. As you play this narrative-driven game, you’re not just imagining the scenes—you’re living them. Conclusion

One Last Job stands out as a testament to the power of interactive storytelling. Its rich narrative, compelling characters, and impactful choices create a sci-fi experience that’s as thrilling as it is emotional. If you’re ready to take the helm, face impossible odds, and decide the fate of the crew, this is the adventure for you.

Questions and Answers with Thomas Boone

How did you come up with the idea for this story?
I’ve always been a fan of the anime Cowboy Bebop, which also takes place in space. I love the colorful and believable characters, the infinite possibilities of what is possible in their sci-fi setting, not to mention the inspiring topics of existence that blend so well with the fast-paced action taking place in dynamic, yet always surprising settings. The topic of trust and betrayal has also always fascinated me in storytelling so I decided to combine both in One Last Job.

What was the biggest challenge in writing it?
The biggest challenge also is the most fun part: offering choices that matter, that do something. One Last Job has been a huge learning opportunity and I’m confident that I will offer an even better experience in the future.

What advice can you give players about the story in advance?
Trust your gut, and carve your path when making decisions. Don’t think about what others would choose. Just be yourself and let the story tell the consequences of your actions.

What other projects / stories do you have planned?
I’m still exploring different genres, but one of the genres that intrigues me the most is horror.

What is special about your story? Or why should I play your story?
One day, four partners-in-crime stumble upon a beacon of hope, catching a glimpse of what can become a life without worries: one last job they can pull off together. That opportunity is suddenly stolen from you. It’s up to you to find out why and no matter whose side you choose, it’s your last job.
