The story combines the ancient empires with classic hunting elements. After the discovery of a mangled corpse, you must venture with your mentor Quintus and your military unit to track down the murderer.
Along the way, you’ll encounter barbarians, the beast itself, and possibly more dead. In this gripping mix of fantasy, mystery and history, you alone must decide who you can trust!
Lovers of history and whodunits will find their place here, as well as anyone who enjoys a good adventure with a military fantasy vibe.
Horror elements such as the shadowy beast, bloody trails, and corpses are described in gripping detail.
In spooky moments on a camping trip in the forest, on a rainy day on the couch, or during a game night with your friends.

Dawn of the Beast hooks the listener instantly. You get an immediate idea of the central mystery, as well as Cordia’s resilient personality as the commander. I appreciated that the story focused on a woman main character who is consistently framed as a strong and capable leader. The relationships between characters are very clear and realistic throughout the story as well. Makes you feel as though these characters really do have history with each other, especially in the case of Cordia and Quintus.
I also enjoy that you are able to shape Cordia’s backstory, motivations, and battle strategy with your choices. The idea of having to shout the battle chant louder to rally your forces felt nicely interactive as well.
That said, despite all the choices the listener makes along the journey, it appears that there is only one ending. This did feel a bit lackluster to me, since I was hoping to find out more about the mystery going on here in alternate paths. I also was hoping to see an ending where Cordia could fight, since it felt like that was what the whole story was leading up to.
Overall though, Dawn of the Beast was very engaging! The characters and their dynamics were a delight to read. The mystery had me hooked and I’d love to see a continuation of this story to discover more!
